Center-weighted describes measurement systems that prioritize the middle portion of a frame or field.
In photography, center-weighted metering calculates exposure by giving more importance to light readings from the central area of the image, assuming the main subject occupies that space: I switched to center-weighted metering for the portrait.
The term applies similarly in other contexts where central values carry more influence than peripheral ones.
