manual mode

Non-automatic control setting

Manual mode is a camera setting that gives the photographer direct control over exposure variables—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO—rather than letting the camera choose automatically.

The term extends to any device or system where automatic functions are overridden for hands-on control: I switched to manual mode to get the shot I wanted.

Contrasts with automatic or program modes.
