f-stop

Aperture size number

An f-stop is a setting on a camera that controls how much light enters through the lens, expressed as a ratio of focal length to aperture diameter.

Lower f-stop numbers like f/2.8 mean a wider opening and more light; higher numbers like f/16 mean a narrower opening and less light.

Photographers adjust f-stops to control exposure and depth of field: I shot at f/1.4 to blur the background.
