Live view is a real-time display of what a camera sees, shown on a screen rather than through an optical viewfinder.
Digital cameras and smartphones use live view to frame shots: I switched to live view to get the angle right.
The term extends to security cameras, video doorbells, and other devices streaming footage as it happens: Check the live view to see who's at the door.
