film advance
Camera's manual crank
Film advance is the mechanism in a camera that moves unexposed film into position after each shot.
The term also describes the act itself: Don't open the back until you've advanced the film.
On manual cameras, a lever or knob advances the film; motorized cameras do it automatically.
The concept became largely obsolete with digital photography.
