censer

Swinging smoke vessel

A censer is a container in which incense is burned, typically during religious ceremonies.

The vessel is often suspended from chains and swung to distribute fragrant smoke: The priest swung the censer as the procession moved down the aisle.

Censers appear across many traditions—Catholic, Orthodox, Buddhist, and others.
