crystal gazing
Seeing the future
Crystal gazing is the practice of staring into a crystal ball or similar reflective surface to supposedly see visions of the future or hidden truths.
The term extends to any attempt at prediction, especially baseless speculation about what's to come: Economic crystal gazing suggests a recession, but no one really knows.
