sandings

Grit-based wood finishing

Sandings is the plural of sanding, referring to multiple instances or sessions of smoothing a surface with sandpaper or an abrasive tool.

A woodworker might speak of the various sandings required between coats of finish, or a floor refinisher might describe the sequence of sandings needed to restore old hardwood.

The table required three sandings before it was ready for stain.
