wet sanding

Water-assisted surface finishing

Wet sanding is sanding a surface while applying water or another liquid to reduce friction, prevent clogging, and minimize dust.

The technique produces a smoother finish than dry sanding, especially on automotive paint, wood finishes, or drywall: I wet sanded the clear coat before buffing.

The water carries away particles that would otherwise scratch the surface.
