robots
Programmed metal laborers
Robots are machines that perform tasks automatically, especially ones that would otherwise require human effort.
The word comes from a Czech term for forced labor.
Robots range from industrial arms assembling cars to humanoid machines in science fiction.
Figuratively, someone acting mechanically or without emotion is called a robot: He moved through his shift like a robot.
