repossess
Seize for nonpayment
To repossess is to take back property when the buyer fails to make payments.
Banks repossess cars, homes, and other financed goods: They repossessed his truck after he missed three payments.
The word emphasizes that ownership reverts to the original seller or lender.
Less commonly, repossess means to regain possession of something previously owned.
