give up
Cease all efforts
To give up is to stop trying, to abandon effort or hope: I give up—this puzzle is impossible.
You can give up a habit (give up smoking), a possession (give up your seat), or a person (don't give up on him).
To give yourself up is to surrender to authorities.
Give up also means to stop expecting: We'd given you up for dead.
