summons
Official appearance order
A summons is an official order requiring someone to appear somewhere, especially in court: She received a summons for jury duty.
Police issue summonses for minor violations like traffic tickets.
The word also describes any authoritative call to appear: a summons to the principal's office.
To summon is to issue such a call, or more broadly to call forth: summon courage, summon a memory.
