acquire
Gain through effort
Acquire is a slightly formal way of saying get.
You can acquire both the abstract (knowledge, skills, rights), and the concrete (land, property, weapons).
When institutions purchase property or assets, the verb is almost always acquire rather than get or buy.
If you acquire a taste for something, you start to like it after you have used it or tried it a few times.
It took me a while to acquire a taste for opera.
Acquire is more general than get, buy, and steal, so it can be used to gloss over the particular way that something came into someone’s possession.
