appropriate
Right for context
As an adjective, by far the most common use, appropriate is a near synonym of suitable, to which it adds the idea of correct or best: The most appropriate time to prune this tree is in the fall. It’s not appropriate for you to take this problem over your supervisor’s head.
As a verb, appropriate has a long vowel in the last syllable and a meaning not closely related to the adjective.
To appropriate something (typically money or property) means to seize it for a particular use: The government has sought to appropriate the land for a nature preserve.
