psychosis
Break from reality
Psychosis is a mental state in which a person loses contact with reality.
Someone experiencing psychosis may have hallucinations, delusions, or severely disordered thinking.
The term covers symptoms rather than a single disease—psychosis can result from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, drug use, or medical conditions.
He was hospitalized during an episode of acute psychosis.
