agnosia
Brain recognition failure
Agnosia is the inability to recognize or interpret sensory information despite intact senses.
Someone with visual agnosia can see objects but cannot identify what they are.
Other forms affect recognition of sounds, faces, or one's own body parts.
The condition typically results from brain damage rather than sensory impairment: The stroke left him with agnosia—he could describe his wife's features but couldn't recognize her face.
