mania
Fever of fixation
Mania is intense enthusiasm or obsession, often excessive: Beatlemania swept the country, a mania for collecting vintage watches.
In psychiatry, mania is a mental state marked by abnormally elevated mood, energy, and activity—the "up" phase in bipolar disorder.
Someone in a manic episode may feel invincible, sleep little, and make reckless decisions.
The suffix -mania forms words for obsessive interests or conditions: pyromania, kleptomania, megalomania.
