psychosomatic

Brain-caused body symptoms

Psychosomatic describes physical symptoms caused or worsened by mental factors rather than purely bodily ones.

A psychosomatic illness is real—the pain or dysfunction exists—but originates in stress, anxiety, or emotional disturbance rather than injury or infection: Doctors found no physical cause; they suspect her symptoms are psychosomatic.

The term sometimes carries dismissive overtones, implying the condition is "all in your head."
