figments
Made-up mental creations
Figments are things that exist only in the imagination—creations of the mind with no basis in reality.
The word almost always appears in the phrase a figment of your imagination, used to dismiss something as invented or unreal: The monster wasn't real; it was just a figment of her imagination.
Rarely used in the singular outside this set phrase.
