inpatient
Admitted for treatment
An inpatient is someone who has been admitted to a hospital or other medical facility and stays overnight or longer for treatment.
The term distinguishes such patients from outpatients, who receive care and go home the same day.
As an adjective, inpatient describes services, units, or treatment provided to those staying in the facility: The surgery requires inpatient care for at least three days.
