pale ale

Light amber brew

Pale ale is a style of beer brewed with pale malt, giving it a lighter color than porters or stouts.

The term originated in 18th-century England to distinguish these golden or amber beers from darker varieties.

India pale ale (IPA), originally brewed with extra hops for the voyage to colonial India, has become the dominant style in American craft brewing: The bar had six pale ales on tap.
