wilt

Sag from thirst

Wilt is what plants do when they droop from lack of water or excessive heat—leaves and stems lose rigidity and sag.

The meaning extends to people who flag under pressure or harsh conditions: She wilted under his questioning, The team wilted in the fourth quarter.

Wilt also survives as an archaic second-person singular of "will": Thou wilt not forsake me.
