caseous necrosis

Cheese-like tissue death

Caseous necrosis is a form of tissue death in which the affected area takes on a soft, white, cheese-like appearance.

The term comes from the Latin word for cheese.

This type of necrosis is characteristic of tuberculosis, where it appears at the center of granulomas—the body's walled-off response to infection.

The biopsy revealed caseous necrosis consistent with TB.
