narwhals
Arctic tusk bearers
Narwhals is the plural of narwhal, the Arctic whale distinguished by the male's long spiraling tusk—actually an elongated tooth that can reach ten feet.
Sometimes called the unicorn of the sea: Narwhals surface through gaps in the ice.
The tusk's purpose remains debated; it may serve in mating displays or sensory perception.
