Yellowknife
Great Slave city
Yellowknife is the capital and largest city of Canada's Northwest Territories, situated on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake.
Named for the copper knives used by the local Dene people, it serves as a center for diamond mining and northern administration.
The city is known for aurora borealis viewing: We drove up to Yellowknife to see the northern lights.
