narwhal tusk
Spiral whale tooth
A narwhal tusk is the long, spiraled tooth that projects from the head of a male narwhal, sometimes reaching nine feet.
Medieval Europeans who encountered these tusks believed them to be unicorn horns and attributed magical properties to them.
The tusk is actually a canine tooth that grows through the upper lip in a counterclockwise spiral.
