narrowboats

Slim waterway craft

Narrowboats are long, slender canal boats designed to fit through the narrow locks of British inland waterways, typically no more than seven feet wide and up to seventy feet long.

Originally built for commercial cargo transport during the Industrial Revolution, they are now primarily used as houseboats or for leisure cruising.

The term distinguishes them from wider barges.

They spent their holiday on a narrowboat touring the canals of England.
