longboat
Oared Norse ship
A longboat is a large rowing boat, historically the largest carried aboard a sailing ship, used for transporting crew and cargo between ship and shore.
The term also refers to the iconic narrow warships used by Vikings and other Norse seafarers, which could be rowed or sailed and were designed to navigate both open seas and shallow rivers.
The longboat was lowered to ferry supplies ashore.
