cigarette boats
Sleek ocean racers
Cigarette boats are long, narrow, high-performance powerboats designed for speed.
The sleek hull cuts through water with minimal drag, allowing speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The name comes from a famous racing boat called "The Cigarette" from the 1960s.
Their combination of speed and cargo capacity made them notorious for drug smuggling in the 1980s: The Coast Guard intercepted a cigarette boat off Miami.
