ocean liners
Passenger ships, enormous
Ocean liners are large passenger ships designed for regular scheduled voyages across oceans, particularly the Atlantic.
Unlike cruise ships, which exist for leisure travel between ports, ocean liners were built for transportation—getting passengers from one continent to another.
The term evokes an earlier era of travel: the great ocean liners of the 1920s.
Famous examples include the Titanic, Queen Mary, and Lusitania.
