mitzvoth

Hebrew religious duties

Mitzvoth is the plural of mitzvah, a commandment in Jewish law or, more broadly, a good deed or act of kindness.

Traditional Judaism counts 613 mitzvoth in the Torah, covering everything from ritual observance to ethical conduct.

The singular mitzvah has become common in general English for any praiseworthy act: Visiting her in the hospital was a real mitzvah.
