responsibility
Obligation to act
A responsibility is an obligation or burden: It’s your responsibility to report any discrepancy in the figures.
Responsibility can also be the state of being responsible: He hasn’t shown that he’s able to deal with ongoing responsibility.
If you take responsibility for something, usually something bad, you accept or declare that you are to blame—even if you weren’t actually present.
If you claim responsibility for something, you made it happen: No one has come forth to claim responsibility for the bombing.
