depower
Strip of energy
To depower is to reduce or remove power from something.
In sailing, depowering a sail means adjusting it to catch less wind—flattening it or letting it luff.
The term extends to mechanical and electrical contexts: Airbags depower after deployment.
In games and fiction, a character who loses special abilities has been depowered: The writers depowered Superman to make the story interesting.
