outhaul
Foot-flattening sail line
An outhaul is a line used to pull a sail taut along a spar, typically stretching the foot of a mainsail along the boom.
Adjusting the outhaul changes sail shape—tighter for flat sails in heavy wind, looser for fuller shape in light air.
Ease the outhaul a bit—we need more power.
