firth
Sea arm, Scotland
A firth is a long, narrow inlet of the sea, especially in Scotland: the Firth of Forth, the Firth of Clyde.
The word is essentially Scottish and appears almost exclusively in Scottish place names.
It corresponds roughly to fjord in Scandinavian geography, though firths tend to be wider and less steep-sided.
