isthmus

Narrow land connector

An isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger landmasses, with water on both sides.

The Isthmus of Panama connects North and South America; the Isthmus of Corinth links mainland Greece to the Peloponnese.

In anatomy, isthmus describes any narrow passage connecting two larger parts: the isthmus of the thyroid gland.
