reactive armor
Detonating defensive plating
Reactive armor is a type of vehicle armor that explodes outward when struck by a projectile, disrupting the incoming round before it can fully penetrate.
Typically consisting of explosive sandwiched between metal plates, it's mounted on tanks and other armored vehicles: The tank's reactive armor deflected the RPG.
The term sometimes extends to any armor designed to actively counter threats rather than simply absorb them.
