kettle hat
Medieval soldier's headgear
A kettle hat is a type of medieval helmet with a wide brim and domed crown, resembling an upturned kettle or pot.
Common among foot soldiers from the 12th through 15th centuries, its broad brim deflected blows and rain while allowing good visibility.
The design influenced later military helmets, including the British "Brodie" helmet of World War I.
