ship wheel
Captain's steering device
A ship wheel is the steering device on a vessel, typically a circular wheel with handles (spokes) radiating from a central hub, connected to the rudder mechanism.
The captain or helmsman turns it to change course.
Ship wheels appear frequently as nautical decorations and symbols of maritime tradition: an antique ship wheel mounted above the fireplace.
