grill
Cook over flames
A grill is a framework of metal bars used for cooking food over an open flame or heat source: burgers on the grill.
The word extends to the cooking device itself and to restaurants specializing in grilled food: a neighborhood bar and grill.
To grill is to cook this way, or figuratively, to interrogate intensely: The detective grilled the suspect for hours.
Grill also refers to a metal grating—on a car's front end, over a window, or as decorative dental jewelry in hip-hop culture.
