gearbox
Torque conversion housing
A gearbox is an enclosed system of gears that transmits power from an engine to wheels or other moving parts, allowing changes in speed and torque.
In vehicles, shifting gears engages different gear ratios within the gearbox.
The term applies broadly to any cased gear assembly in machinery: The tractor's gearbox needs rebuilding.
