upshift
Change gear up
Upshift describes moving to a higher gear in a vehicle, the opposite of downshift.
When you upshift, you're typically accelerating or reaching a speed where a higher gear becomes more efficient.
The term extends metaphorically to any increase in intensity, pace, or level: The campaign upshifted into high gear after the primaries.
As a noun, an upshift is an instance of this gear change or intensification.
