bevel

Cut at slant

A bevel is an angled edge or surface—one that's neither perpendicular nor parallel to adjacent faces.

Picture the slanted edge of a mirror or the chamfered corner of a piece of wood.

To bevel is to cut or shape such an angle: bevel the edges before joining the boards.

A bevel is also the tool used to measure or mark angles, sometimes called a bevel square.
