solid axle
Non-independent suspension component
A solid axle is a single rigid beam connecting wheels on opposite sides of a vehicle, so both wheels move together rather than independently.
Common in trucks, SUVs, and older cars, solid axles are durable and handle heavy loads well but provide a rougher ride than independent suspension: The Jeep's solid axle handled the rocky terrain without complaint.
