firelock
Early sparking gun
A firelock is an early type of gun—specifically one using a flintlock or similar mechanism where a spark ignites the powder.
The term dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, when it distinguished these weapons from earlier matchlock guns that required a slow-burning fuse.
The militia shouldered their firelocks and marched.
