fusil

Light infantry musket

A fusil is a light flintlock musket, the standard infantry weapon of European armies in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The term survives mainly in historical contexts and in the names of certain British regiments: the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

In heraldry, a fusil is an elongated diamond shape, narrower than a lozenge.
