wedging

Cramming something tight

Wedging is the act of forcing something into a tight space, or using a wedge-shaped object to hold something in position or split it apart: She was wedging clothes into an already stuffed suitcase.

In ceramics, wedging is kneading clay to remove air bubbles and achieve uniform consistency before shaping.

To give someone a wedgie—yanking their underwear upward—is also called wedging.
