extruding

Forcing material out

Extruding is the present participle of extrude, which means to force or push something out through an opening, typically to shape it.

Industrial processes extrude materials like plastic, metal, or pasta dough through dies to create consistent forms: The machine was extruding aluminum into long tubes.

The term also applies to geological processes where molten rock is extruded through volcanic vents.

More generally, anything that protrudes or is forced outward can be said to extrude.
