electric guitar
Plugged-in instrument
An electric guitar is a guitar that converts string vibrations into electrical signals, which are then amplified through a speaker.
Unlike acoustic guitars, electric guitars produce little sound on their own and rely on amplifiers for volume.
The instrument revolutionized popular music in the mid-20th century, becoming central to rock, blues, and jazz: She plugged in her electric guitar and cranked the amp.
